boring plotline that’s been rehashed over and over until no one likes it (faction war/robot revolution)
characters turned into caricatures of themselves for shock-value/plot convenience
a plot that probably could’ve worked if executed correctly but the writers decided to go with the worst possible outcomes instead
plot-points/characterizations from previous installments of the game are forgotten
previous installments of the game are just…completely irrelevant now. might as well not have happened.
despite very obviously being a terrible game that invalidates its predecessors people will go to hell and back to defend it for Some Fucking Reason
The only difference is that, whereas 343 lied to us two years straight with the ad campaign, I knew BFA was gonna be garbage the moment I saw the trailer.
The only other reason: 343 cared very deeply for Halo and spent years carefully studying Bungie’s lore to integrate it into the game, but when the everyone liked H4 except the nostalgic fratboys, Microsoft feared they might lose said precious fratboys and forced 343 to retcon H5’s story by replacing any dev who wasn’t already submissive.
One thing that confuses me to death about tumblr is that they can go from absolutely adoring something to despising it over the course of a couple years, like all of tumblr is collectively ashamed of liking it as much as they did. Like Homestuck, SuperWhoLock, and Benedict Cumberbatch are now super shameful even though it was Tumblr’s lifeforce a couple years back.
Calling it right now, in a couple years, a large portion of tumblr will look back on Undertale with a slight sense of shame. Yeah, it’s an amazing game (and I could talk for hours about how good it is), but two years from now, we’re going to be looking at it the same way we see Homestuck right now.
look i’m not saying that children shouldn’t be allowed to play video games or anything like that but the fact that kids as young as EIGHT are using misogynistic, homophobic and racial slurs in casual conversations because they heard their favorite streamer or opponent on a video game say it is something that urgently needs addressing
This has nothing to do with a video game, it has to do with parenting. Parents should be teaching their children what is/isn’t an appropriate word to say. I grew up playing video games and listening to music full of words/phrases that shouldn’t be used, but my parents taught me and my siblings what words we shouldn’t use. They also didn’t say things like “because they’re inappropriate” or “because that’s a bad word”, they’d explain why it’s wrong to use. It’s the same thing with the “video games cause violence” argument. It’s not the game, it’s the parenting.
I mean although this is a fair critique of parenting acting like twitch streamers are completely innocent is just dishonest. The media you consume affects what you think is okay and a kid seeing someone they like saying slurs is going to start thinking slurs are okay to say no matter what their parents have said
