ordinarily i wouldn’t get this elaborate for a request, but by pure coincidence already had a davekat marriage drawing scanned in that i had been sitting on for a while.
btw if u think that nb ppl considering themselves to be gay/lesbian/mlm/wlw means that “men can be lesbians and women can be gay men” then youre an idiot with a fundamental misunderstanding of nonbinary identities and u should shut up forever!
nonbinary people arent a monolith, we dont all identify the same way. nonbinary just means not fully a man or a woman. theres identities that are partially one binary gender, theres binary-aligned people, theres people that feel disconnected from their gender bc of heteronormativity. and the list goes on.
the thing is, society is very binary. its terms are binary. so nonbinary people exist in this awkward space where we can either fit ourselves into these (maybe ill-fitting) binary boxes so we can navigate this society, and thus get a torrent of “well if ur nb why are u saying ur [binary term] hmm??”, or we can create our own terms, our own identities, make our own boxes that fit perfectly, and get criticized bc “those arent real terms! u made that up! thats cringey/mogai/harmful/transphobic/etc!”.
what are we supposed to do? are we simply to not exist? to shut up about this integral part of our identities? to “admit” that we’re confused binary people trying to be special? if we cant conform and we cant defy, where are we to exist?
concept: after really starting to take in dave’s explanations of his struggles with internalized homophobia john realizes that he too is a victim of heteronormativity and he isn’t all that straight himself, it’s not long before he realizes how heavily he’s crushing on both dave and karkat (who are already together) and after talking it all over with them both all three of them decide they’re totally down with polyamory and all is well
