the words are “stranger” until they see each other/talk to each other for the first time, but even after the words start moving, the boys are dumbasses and don’t figure it out for a while.

Karkat figures out it must be a human but not which one and Dave thinks it could be a troll but he isn’t sure. at first they get things like “loud”, “annoying”, “never shuts up wtf”, “scrawny”, “hilariously opinionated”, etc. and it’s just so predictable. it’s what everybody who’s ever disliked them said about them, it’s what they think about themselves when it’s late at night.

then the nature of the words shifts. they’re more like “underfed”, “maybe lonely”, “surprisingly funny”,
“I’m worried about him”,

“somebody who’d understand”, “fucking attractive”, “strong”, “absolutely hilarious”, “if I could only bring one person to a deserted island”, and so on.

and they’re fairly sure they know who it is but what if they’re wrong and ruin their budding friendship???
